(This is part of my A Writer’s Notebook newsletter that is sent out bi-monthly. Click here to find out more and sign up!)
Happy Thursday! I hope you had a good three day weekend. I know I’ve been lagging the last few weeks and didn’t send out an email but I did it for good reason, trust me.
You see, we all have tons of ideas (some great and some not so great) but sometimes, those ideas sit in the back of our minds where we talk about them but never bring them to life. I don’t want to keep doing that so I decided to introduce a few new projects and tweak a few current ones to keep me motivated and keep the creative juices flowing.
This means more content from me every week because I fell into that “comfortability trap” where I felt lazy. I always say that “comfort is the killer of creativity” and I truly believe it because when we are comfortable, we don’t want to do anything that will disrupt our comfortability.
Newsletter — AWritersNotebook.com
I am happy to announce I am going to be sending out this newsletter every Sunday from now on! I’m doing this because with the previous schedule, I would publish a newsletter and wait another 13 days before getting the next one ready. I would then feel discouraged, lazy, and flustered because I had to come up with a topic and quickly write it out so I had something to send out in time.
Now, by sending something out every week, I won’t have any downtime to get lazy and procrastinate. I would have to keep my churning out content in order to meet my publishing schedule.
YouTube channel — www.jamie.show
Currently, I publish a “vlog-style” video every Wednesday. Within the coming weeks, I will switch it up to where one week will be the same vlogging type video and the next week, I will have a fireside type chat where I’ll talk about various topics that are on my mind. It could be anything from advice/rants on life, soccer, my puppies, or even movie reviews. The sky is limitless.
I found out recently that I have been on YouTube for ten years! I haven’t posted videos consistently throughout that time but I am glad I started back up again. I just past 40 subscribers and am closing in on 50,000 all-time views. If you want to watch to the first video I uploaded, click here (it’s cringe-worthy but it’s a live video of John Mayer singing Daughters).
Also, if you haven’t already, please subscribe to my channel! Every subscription, like, and comment helps bring new people in!
Createveryday — www.createveryday.co (new website coming soon)
When I first started this project, I thought it was going to be easy because what’s easier than posting a picture every day? There were many times (I know I’ve missed a few days) where I didn’t feel like posting anything but I forced myself to create something and post it for the world to see. This got me “out of my shell” to be able to hit “publish” on a lot of things because I got over the anxiety of what people may think. Since then, new projects and other opportunities have presented itself so I am glad to be able to get back on the platform.
Sorry, I’m Not Sorry — www.sorryimnotsorrybook.com (new website coming soon)
I am glad to say I am in the final stages of finishing my 2nd book. This means I am currently tweaking the stories before sending it out for proofing. Once that comes back, I can start laying the format for printing. I started a Patreon page for pre-orders but won’t be promoting it as much until I get it the book back. I am looking for an August release date.
LA Galaxy blogging
Blogging about the LA Galaxy was what got me writing again. Before that, I didn’t know what I wanted to do and had nothing going on but it got me producing articles every week for two plus years and it lead to a lot of gigs. But since I have many other projects going on, I had to let go of a few things and sadly, it had to be this. I really tried to make it work but since getting a new job at Thirsty Agency, my time for soccer blogging had severely diminished. I still enjoy watching them (even after Brian Rowe’s brain fart in Montreal) and will still continue attending games.
A Few Things I’m Currently Into
Explosions in the Sky’s show at the 9:30 Club in D.C. (one of my favorite venues).
Heaven Adores You — a really good documentary on Elliot Smith.
On top of the Wilshire Grand — soon to be the tallest building west of the Mississippi
If you made it this far, congratulations! I know it was a lot to take it but this will definitely help me even though I know it will be stressful at times.
